Dr. Suzanne Flynn (Director) has been a Professor of Linguistics and Language Acquisition at MIT since 1981. Her research focuses on the acquisition of various aspects of syntax by both children and adults in bilingual, second- and third-language contexts. More recently, she has expanded her work to focus on the neural representation of the multilingual brain and the nature of language in individuals with early onset of Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Flynn has published extensively in journals, authored and co-edited several books, and served as the co-founding editor of Syntax: A Journal of Theoretical, Experimental and Interdisciplinary Research. She received her M.S. from the University of Puerto Rico and M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. She has a clinical certification in Speech and Language Pathology and, along with her husband and son, is currently a housemaster at MIT.
