Dr. Chrisann Newransky, Clerk and Director (she/her), is currently an associate professor at Adelphi University School of Social Work (SSW). Her background is in social policy and her area of research is health disparities. She is especially interested in evaluation research and has recently worked on projects in care coordination for people with serious mental illness, adult vaccine-preventable diseases, and cervical cancer prevention. She is currently engaged in evaluation research to examine pilot projects to integrate primary care services into the mental health setting and multi-factorial interventions to build capacity in at-risk youth. Previously, she studied the ability of self-help microcredit programs to enhance the health and welfare of women and children in Sub-Saharan Africa and India. Chrisann earned her PhD and M.S.W. from the Graduate School of Social Work at Boston College and also holds an M.A. in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University. Chrisann has been a board member for Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON), a human rights organization for “untouchable” women and has served as member and president of the alumni board of the Heller School of Social Policy and Management. She is currently a board member of Friends of Kalangarai, a non profit organization supporting education and microcredit programs for widows in South India. Prior to her graduate studies, Chrisann spent eight years working overseas for Habitat for Humanity International in the Philippines and for the local government in Japan. With a colleague at Adelphi University, Chrisann is currently engaged in creating opportunities for in-person and online academic and cultural exchange with the School of Human Welfare Studies at Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya.
