of Hippo Family Club 1966 - Tokyo English Center founded by Yo Sakakibara in Tokyo. 1968 - Language Research Foundation founded by Yo Sakakibara in Cambridge, MA. 1972 - Homestay program begun with 4-H. 1981 - LEX Institute/HIPPO Family Club founded by Yo Sakakibara to focus on multilingual/multicultural activities. 1982 - HIPPO Family Club exchange with 4-H begun. 1985 - LEX America founded in Cambridge, MA mainly to coordinate exchange programs. 1990 - Lex America moved to Belmont, MA. 1994 - Language Research Foundation re-activated in Belmont to publish books written by Transnational College of LEX and HIPPO Family Club. 1995 - English version of Who is Fourier? published. 1996 - English version of What is Quantum Mechanics? published. March 1997 - Yo Sakakibara gave seminar in Boston, introducing HIPPO Family Club to US. June 1997 - Camp held for potential fellows in western MA. November 1997 - HIPPO Family Club launched in MA, NY, and NJ with 3 clubs (Belmont Tomodachi, Manhattan, and Englewood Cliffs). September 1998 - HIPPO Family Club launched in Chihuahua, Mexico. November 1998 - Westchester HIPPO Club opened. December 1998 - First Transnational HIPPO Camp (Mystic, CT) July 1999 - Westchester, NY HIPPO office opened. September 1999 - Mexico City HIPPO office opened. November 1999 - Cambridge Club begun. April 2000 - Belmont Henbok Club begun. May 2000 - First HIPPO Camp in Mexico City. 2003 - Founding of Kumi Greissman Exchange Scholarship, which gives partial funding to members who participate in exchange programs. 2006 - Founding of Paros Scholarship Fund, which allows new members to join LEX and purchase audio materials at a discount. |
