What People Are Saying About LEX

Travel

Exceeded My Expectations

My stay in Japan exceeded my expectations. Meeting with family and friends was the best part of my homestay.
I loved talking with my host family, first in English, then switching over to broken Japanese. I definitely felt like a part of the family.

Each day was a new experience of fun and adventure. I've never before had 28 days of such exciting unknowns. Each day was a challenge in language, travel, and emotions.

Animal Adventures

I rode on a horse! I was so happy! It was a French-speaking horse. So, it didn't understand "Whoa," "Walk," etc. unless I spoke French!

Confidence

I am a more open person now. I have the confidence to try anything new.

Small World

The homestay has shown me how small the world is. Our cultural differences are basically in communication and
upbringing, but we're all still humans in the end.

Key Experience

Having made friends and jotted down addresses, I will always maintain contact with the Korean society and culture... The average tourist misses many important experiences by never interacting with the members of Korean society or hearing their opinions. The homestay program is definitely the key to unlocking the door to the most intimate knowledge of another culture.

Hosting

Words are Not Enough

Words do not begin to explain the joy I have experienced in hosting Satoshi. This whole week has been chock full of wonderful, insightful and educational events, for not only my family, but for many members of our community.

Hosting is the Next Best Thing to Going

We enjoyed it very much - the next best thing to actually going to Japan. It was a wonderful experience for each member of our family, it felt like we were on vacation. Our guests (a Japanese family of four) adapted very nicely.
They were very helpful and felt like a part of our family.

The parents both spoke excellent English. The children didn't seem to have difficulty communicating with our children even though they spoke little English.

One Moon

It was during a long dry spell in the weather that I attended
a bible study meeting with my host Chuck where I explained
about the Buddhist and Shinto religions in Japan. As we left the church, we looked up at the full moon which had a ring around it.

I remarked hopefully that in Japan when we see a moon like this, it means it will rain. Chuck replied, "Different land, different religion, different language, but the same moon."
At that moment, I felt that Chuck understood me completely.
