PAROS SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Paros Scholarship Fund provides financial support to individuals and families who would not otherwise be able to join Lex Language Project. The scholarship gives assistance with Lex Language Project membership and audio materials by covering 60% of the registration fee, monthly membership fee (dependent on family size), and CD set. The CD set may be paid for in 12 monthly installments with no interest or penalty for the extra installments. The scholarship is awarded to each recipient for one year. We hope that, having paid off their CD set at the end of one year, scholarship recipients will be motivated and able to continue their membership on their own. Preference is given to applicants who have the most to gain from the program, who will participate actively in accordance with LEX methods and guidelines, who can most enhance the positive, active learning environment of the clubs, and who can attend on a regular basis. Non-native English speakers and multilingual people are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants must show that their gross annual income (total amount of all financial gains of combined adult household members, including salary, investment gains, alimony, child support, and other income, as defined for purposes of reporting under Internal Revenue Service (IRS) annual income tax purposes) is equal to or less than the following figures: Household Size: Availability of the Paros Scholarship is based on availability of funds and approval of the Selection Committee. LEX America employees and family members of employees are not eligible for the Paros Scholarship. While the scholarship is primarily intended for new members, it may be extended to current and former members in exceptional circumstances, as determined on a case-by-case basis by the Selection Committee. LEX Language Project and LEX America does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age or handicap. APPLICATION PROCESS The applicant(s) need to visit LEX four times before filling out an application, which can be acquired through the club Fellow or main office. We would want to see that the applicant has a genuine appreciation for LEX and would be a valuable member. We would also check references to ensure that the applicant is reliable and conscientious, and could maintain a year-long agreement. Our committee will make a decision based on the application, stated financial need, an interview, and references. Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis, and applicants will generally receive an answer within two weeks. |
