In a homestay, you will experience the heart
of Korean culture - the Korean family. The Korean Hippo Family Club
(known as LEX Language Project in the U.S.) families are always willing
to open their homes to delegates from around the world. Our families
are all members of a unique multilingual language club. By joining Hippo
and participating in club activities, they have shown a deep interest
in and commitment to learning about cultures other than their own. Host
families are carefully selected and all have some English ability.
By becoming a member of a Korean family, you
can experience the culture in a way inaccessible to ordinary students
or tourists. You will participate in everyday life, eat home-cooked
meals, explore your neighborhood, and go sightseeing with your Korean
hosts.
Exchanges to Korea are available to LEX Language
Project members and participants with our partner organizations: States'
4-H International Exchange Programs, Texas Global Exchange, Premium
International Exchange, ERDT, and the Canadian/Japanese Exchange if
the organization has a Korea program. Participants with our partner
organizations should contact your local exchange program coordinator
for more information.

Wonderful People
I spoke at length on various topics
with each of my Korean host family members. I was able to
relate extremely well with each of the host family members
on different levels.... Every day was full of activities.
I went to the movies, had meals at home, went out to restaurants,
and watched TV with my host family. I've met many wonderful
people through the homestay.

Key Experience
Having made friends and jotted down
addresses, I will always maintain contact with the Korean
society and culture... The average tourist misses many important
experiences by never interacting with the members of Korean
society or hearing their opinions. The homestay program
is definitely the key to unlocking the door to the most
intimate knowledge of another culture.
